Offida (DOC)

talians, who love beautiful things, know Offida, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, for its production of highly refined lacework. Laces are still made at Offida using the very same techniques as those in the 15th Century, transmitted from mother to daughter till our days. But this beautiful, tiny town of 5,000 people has been known forever for its production of wine too. It is no coincidence then that the choice for the Regional Wine Exhibition of the Marches has fallen on Offida.

Until 2001, the territory of Offida was included entirely in the Rosso Piceno D.O.C. appellation, and its best wines thus remained anonymous. But thanks to the new appellation, some of the special wines produced here, like Passerina and Pecorino as well as a red that combines Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon, have finally had a chance to assert their own personality, which is linked to the climatic and structural characteristics of the land.

Contrary to what happens in other D.O.C. territories, Offida is divided into various production zones depending on the type of wine: Offida Pecorino and Offida Passerina, for instance, are produced in 22 communes, while Offida Rosso is only produced in 17 communes and the Vin Santo is produced solely in the communes of Offida and Ripatransone.
