In any case, as one of the lake's direct consequences, the area's climate has become milder, and of course this has proven beneficial to the cultivated lands and vineyards surrounding the lake.
The winegrowers here, who have suddenly found themselves blessed with new climatic conditions, have taken advantage of this by adopting modern winemaking techniques and creating new wines that are not bound by tradition and can therefore follow market trends freely.
As a result, in an area known for its white wine - who hasn't heard of Orvieto? - daring winemakers have used Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir grapes to produce some great reds.
