Garda (DOC)

ake Garda is not only a major tourist attraction but also a gigantic source of energy for the surrounding hills: in the winter months it gives off the heat that it has accumulated during summer. This explains the lush vegetation of the surrounding hills and the presence of olive trees, which are typical of more southern climates. This microclimate is beneficial also to the grapevines, which regardless of the variety, are at their best here.

There are many old D.O.C. areas around Lake Garda. The Garda D.O.C., however, was established in 1996. It extends to the territories of the provinces of Mantua and Brescia in Lombardy and Verona in Veneto.

Garda D.O.C. represents a new appellation concept that allows the producers to concentrate their efforts only on those grapevines that best suit their vineyards' particular conditions, picking from no less than 18 grape varieties.

Within this appellation, the Rosso, Chiaretto, Groppello and Bianco wines produced in 25 municipalities of the province of Brescia can avail of the "Classico" subcategory.
