Colli della Sabina (DOC)

he land of the ancient Sabines, once the enemies of Rome, extends between the modern provinces of Rome and Rieti. The extra virgin olive oil produced here has been commended for its high quality for many centuries. And in Italy, wherever there are olive trees, there are also vines. However, unlike in other parts of the country, in Sabina the olive oil has often stolen the stage at the expense of the local wine.

In the '80s, local farmers came to realize that by improving the quality of their traditional wines (a red and a rosé made with Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes and a white made with Trebbiano and Malvasia) they could improve and complement the overall supply of the products of their land. Thus they began concentrating on the improvement of their vineyards and cellars. The results have been very good and have allowed the winegrowers to sell their products on the domestic and international markets and to obtain a D.O.C. appellation for their wines in 1996.
