rom the Apennines dominating Bologna all the way down to the heart of the Bolognese plain, this is the land of white wines. This area is divided into two distinct territories. The first is clustered around Monte San Pietro. The second reaches the River Po and the town of Cento, near Ferrara. The first area is home to the Pignoletto grape variety, which has been grown here at least since 1654. This grape yields a pale straw wine with green-tinged hues - the Colli Bolognesi Classico Pignoletto D.O.C.It is a light, delicate, very pleasant wine. It is produced in the territory of Monte San Pietro, an area that is particularly interesting from the winemaking point of view. The wines produced at Monte San Pietro have always been in great demand. Up until World War II, the prices of Bologna wines were set according to the price of wine at Monte San Pietro, where the Pignoletto enjoyed a prominent position.
