Castelcosa by Furlan
Description
Our Winery
The winery is built into a magnificent building. It is located in the small village of Cosa, with its Castello di Cosa (more commonly, Castelcosa), in the geographical center of Friuli—thus the description of our wines “from the Heart of Friuli.” We are about 100 km ( 60 mi) east of Venice, bordered on the north by Austria (90 km/56mi), on the east by Slovenia (60 km/37mi), and on the south by the Adriatic Sea (40 km/25mi).
Our Production
Castelcosa has approximately 6 hectares (ca 15 acres) of estate vineyards and another 30 (75 ac) under contract in one of the most viticulturally-important areas of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region: the Grave area. We utilize native as well as international grape varieties. The native white varieties include ribolla gialla, friulano, and verduzzo friulano, while chardonnay, pinot grigio, and sauvignon blanc represent the international types. Red varities include the native refosco and schioppettino as well as the international merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and pinot noir.
