In 2011 Italy celebrates its 150th anniversary of unification, and to celebrate this milestone Veronafiere (organizers of Vinitaly) has produced two commemorative bottles, one white and one red. Each wine is a blend of 20 varietals, one from each region of Italy (20 reds, 20 whites). The commemorative bottle concept was introduced at a press conference at the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC in October. At this breakfast, for the first time ever, the names of the varietals used to make the wines will be revealed.
